What we have done so far...
Our actions to date include:
Raising awareness and stimulating action by:
-
leading a call for an inquiry into an airport development project;
-
raising in the media issues of concern to the anti- corruption movement;
-
holding international conferences on investigative journalism, transparency in the financial sector and political party financing;
-
holding an essay contest for schools;
-
making a presentation to a Cabinet retreat on integrity in public life as essential for good governance;
-
conducting a survey of people's perceptions of corruption; and
-
contributing a presentation of TI’s Business Principles for Countering Bribery to a seminar for accountants.
Contributing to the reform of laws and institutions by:
-
submitting to Government commentaries on the Freedom of Information Act and the reform of the Office of the Ombudsman;
-
carrying out a survey for the international Global Forum II Conference of the National Integrity System i.e. the laws and institutions that aim to safeguard and promote integrity and prevent corruption;
-
making a submission to the Commission of Enquiry into the Piarco Airport Development Project;
-
holding a symposium on Transparent Public Procurement;
-
working on the Government committee that produced the Green and White Papers on the Reform of the Public Procurement Regime and drafted the new public procurement legislation;
-
training public officers in Public Procurement Ethics;
-
monitoring Trinidad & Tobago’s implementation of the Inter–American Convention Against Corruption and presented our findings to the Organization of American States (OAS).
